Alopecia areata is an autoimmune condition that causes hair loss in well demarcated areas, which depending on their size may go unnoticed. However, patches may connect and then become visible. The condition develops when the immune system attacks hair follicles, resulting in hair loss.
It can cause sudden hair loss on the scalp and, in some cases, on the eyebrows, eyelashes and face, as well as other parts of the body. It can also develop slowly and may recur after years of remission between episodes.
Being a condition that is based on the action of the immune system, as a first intention of treatment is indicated therapy with Triamcinolone injection, Kenalog, locally, in the areas of alopecia. Through the action of this corticosteroid, the local autoimmune action on the hair follicle is stopped and new hair growth can resume.
The treatment can also be combined with other scalp mesotherapy substances, either in the same session or at a distance, thus helping to stimulate faster hair growth and regeneration of the already damaged ones.
